Cancergiggles is an idiot's guide to accepting, living with, laughing at and dying from cancer. The very, very last bit I can't be absolutely sure of, but then who the hell can? I could have written some beautifully crafted, grammatically correct essays but I hope you will understand, that when I say "I don't have a lot of time" I mean it far more literally than you do. I just wanted scribble a few thoughts to maybe light a spark in people - and then it became a book about Cancer, Life, Death, Illness and Politics. ISBN 0955198801

Atheist poetry competition

posted Monday, 5 April 2004

I recently agreed to "die for a blog". The idea was that a contest would be held by The Raving Atheist to produce a poem and that I would, in due course die as an atheist in the name of his/her blog. I pointed out that the prize was not going to be forthcoming easily and that delivery was likely to be considerably delayed. I judged the entries yesterday (blind, in that I had no idea where they came from) and have since found that the winner was written on behalf of the Three Dog Blog . On reflection I did actually expect anyone entering such a competition to have a blog spouting vitriol and bitterness against just about everything that moved. I am very pleasantly surprised and think that maybe my instinct to choose the limerick below showed an insight into its author. Threedogblog is a thoughtful, almost serene blog with comment covering a divers spectrum and some beautiful images. It chooses not have "domino" opinions (I believe, in A therefore I must believe in B,C and D) and has joined the very small and frequently pruned number of blogs on my favourites list and the equally small number of outside links on this site. I have read quite a few of the articles and so far have no mental picture of the authors. I don’t know if they are all male, I know they are left wing-ish, that one makes beautiful furniture (an ability I really would die for) and one takes evocative photographs. Dog 2 is so far a mystery but I will delve further.

That Cass Brown, known as Atheist Jesus,
Has cancer does not really please us.
But if godless he passes,
From this world full of asses,
Then his chance for real peace just increases.
